My favorite game at the moment is a mod for Arma2 called DayZ. It is a persistent-world FPS game with permadeath. It's based on a military simulator, so it's very brutal and unforgiving.

I second the above. even scarier now that you spawn with no weaponry to speak of. They added the ability of the axe to me used in melee. I think you can do so with the crowbar as well. Good fun.

Finally got it loaded only to have it crash my video card. I'm going to have to play with the settings. I'm in Vegas until Friday, maybe we can get together over the weekend and team up.

Tried mine again yesterday and it crashed my video card again. Even with everything turned down. I've had a problem with this for a while so guess it's time to upgrade the card.

I could start ARMA II
Crash when starting ARMA:OA
Pixel and bin errors when trying to start ARMA:CO

Google indicated to run steam.exe as administrator LOL
Just using the Set as Administrator choice for the RC drop down menu breaks other games, TQIT, Skyrim so I'm not doing that
Instead I RC on steam.exe, Security tab and highlighted my USER settings and applied.
Seemed to work


So now what do i do with the Six updater and how do I install DayZ?

I found the Beta (95208) download file but it had been "installing" for over 2 hours.
16GB of base files LOL

If I remember right, it's necessary to start ARMA II and ARMA II: OA once through Steam. After that, I think once you've got DayZ installed, then Six Updater, you do not need to use Steam to start it anymore (I don't). Just start it through the Six Launcher program. The Six Launcher will automatically update you with DayZ and ARMA patches.

I also setup a SLG Teamspeak server. Here's the info:
