Just a quick FYI to everyone.... I took the BF 1942 server off line last night. It has not proved to be popular as a 1942 server.
I plan to convert it over to Desert Combat Final, since that seems to be the desire of a clear majority of the people who expressed an interest. I'll leave it off line until I have a chance to do so, as it does tax the server somewhat even when empty.

We have learned alot about what maps work in actual HL2:DM gameplay.
With that in mind I hope you will enjoy this next selection.
The new maps are:
dm_arrival
dm_deathclub_v1
dm_island17
dm_nighthawk
|
dm_outpost
dm_sanctuary_reloaded
dm_underpass_b3
dm_torque
termination
|
You can download them ahead of time as individual maps or as Map Pack #4
Termination is DocRock's initial foray into Source and its a
beauty. All indoors but multilevel, open, bright and with lots of
ammo. Definitely one for the team dm server. dm_torque is
based on the concept of the original HLDM map. It was a favourite
then and the gameplay feels similar. dm_arrival is absolutely
huge. It is based on the arrival station at the beginning of HL2.
dm_island17 is a lot smaller but looks like it will be fast
and fun. I'm looking forward to checking them out with a full server.
You coming along?

The SunLit Day of Defeat Map Pack #16 is now
available for download. You can find it on the
SunLit
DoD Map Pack #16 download page, where you
can also see a complete list of the maps
included along with pictures of each one.
There are some all-new maps, including
dod_straberg and dod_skyline_b3, as well as
some different versions of well-known maps,
including dark_switch and dod_flash2_b1. And,
of course, there's the obligatory remake of
cr44, dod_kettle_b3. I swear, we could play a
whole night just on a mapcycle of dod_cr44
clones :).
There is a new mapcycle on
Futurama that includes all the new maps.
Enjoy.

SunLit now has a BattleField: 1942 set up and running. For those of you who
are unfamiliar with this game, it is a WWII first person shooter. The most significant difference between this game and DoD is it has vehicles. You can
drive tanks and jeeps, fly planes, etc.
Here is the server info:
Server Name:
|
SunLit
BF 1942
|
|
Server IP Address:
|
69.56.242.82:14567 |
If you have the retail game and have not played it recently, you'll want to get the BF1942 1.6 patch
and the BF1942 1.61 patch (links are to Fileshack).
We want to see how this runs, and make sure it doesn't lag the other servers (we had problems with Call of Duty in that regard) for a bit. If successful, we will solicit everyone's opinions on whether we should keep it as a BF 1942 (WWII) server or switch to the Desert Combat (modern weapons/middle east) mod.
Many thanks to Laike for getting screen shots of all the standard maps for us!

It wasn't our imaginations .
When the Web Site went down, the auto downloads from the web server were also cut off. All the custom map downloads reverted to the game servers themselves, both HLDM and DOD side.
That put some strain on the system and resulted in some strange lag.
The problem with the web server was some bad RAM. The provider had the RAM swapped out and the server rebooted in no time :D.
The lag was alleviated when the web site went back up.

HL:DM Maps - Do the Remakes "Work" in HL2:DM ?
Good question. Who are the remakes made for ? The HL old timers or the HL2 fan who may not have even played HLDM ? Do the remakes capture the fun of the originals?
With this in mind, a new mapcycle is up on the SunLit HL:DM server
Shotgun Madness 69.56.242.81:27015
The maps will fast auto-download from the server
Refresh your memory of the old favourites * or if you are new to HL:DM,
jump in the game and see where the HL2:DM mappers got their inspiration.
If you have never played HL:DM and already play HL2, installation is free and easy. Read below for the the simple instructions.

The new maps are:
dm_battlefield
dm_castle_overload
dm_casual
dm_corrode_b5
dm_darkCity
dm_frenzy
dm_haze_b2 |
dm_killboxreloaded

Your forum comments on the number of spawn points, any r_speed issues, fun factor
and whether the map would be good for teamplay would be greatly appreciated. Maps with obvious problems were excluded but some issues can't be discerned by a lone player.

New Logo
It was a long time coming but SunLit is bringing in the New Year with a new banner.
There were some excellent submissions made by the community, cool colours, designs and concepts.
A big thanks to all of you who exercised your creative talents.
The final selection was the image created by -FpS-Vandal . Nice work!
It had the colours , the motto and the recognition of the Half-Life engine driving our game servers now and to come.
We hope you all like it.

A few players have reported problems with Loss in Futurama. I have looked into it and I think the likely culprit was a bad setting in the server.cfg file. At one point recently while trying to fix something else, I had tried changing the sv_maxrate to 20000. I forgot to switch it back afterwards. I bet this was the problem.
I also defragged the game server machine today and scanned it for viruses and ad-ware, just to be sure.
On the client end (that's your computer :) ), you can all make sure that you have your "rate" setting at no higher than 9999 (if you have DSL or Cable) and no lower than 2500 (if you are on dial-up). To check this setting, start DoD, pull down your console, type "rate" and press return. It will show your current rate value. To change the value simply type "rate 9999".
Hope this does it. Post a comment here or in the forums if you are having persistent trouble. Keep in mind an occaisional spike from 0 to 1 or 2 choke, as long as it disappears again fairly quickly, is normal.

We have another new custom model for HL Rally, the Peugot 206 XP. This is actually a re-skin of the stock HL Rally 206 skin, extracting this will overwrite the original with this nicer looking skin. If you want to keep your original, re-name or back up your hlrally>models>player>206>206.mdl file before extracting this one.
The Peugot 206 XP model should be extracted to your hlrally folder, just like the maps.
The author is johnnyfartpants and you can offer him any comments on the HL Rally forums.
Happy racing.

Mini Cooper has been added to the SunLit Rally server. This is the original Mini Cooper, popular in England in the 1960's.
You can install it from the link above. It installs to the same folder as our HL Rally map installers (C:>Program Files>Steam>SteamApps>{your e-mail}>Half-Life>hlrally). If you have installed HL Rally maps or map packs from SunLit previously, the installer will remember the proper folder.

You can find it on our HL Rally Map
Packs page.
Some pics from a few of the new maps are below. You can also see all the
pics, along with individual map downloads, of all our maps on the HL Rally Maps page.
If you don't have HL Rally yet, you should check it out. It's neat, it's
something different, and it's free. You can find it on our HL Rally Mod page. You'll find instructions on
installing it at the top of that page.
Enjoy.

We have two new maps for Christmas. You can download them from the links below, or let the server auto-download them to you.
I've added these maps to the mapcycle on the SunLit Winter Warfare server.
I hope all our great friends that play here have a wonderful Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.

Please note that both of our Half-Life 2 DeathMatch servers now have new IP addresses. This is due to an effort do deal with lag (specifically, high levels of choke) on the HL2DM servers, on a suggestion from another server operator. We are separating out the servers on to two different IP addresses.
New IP Addresses:
SunLit Source of Horrors
Type: HL2DM DeathMatch
IP Addr: 69.56.242.82:27055
SunLit Team DeathMatch
Type: HL2DM Team DeathMatch

There's a new mapcycle up on Futurama. If you are up-to-date with our maps, there's nothing new to download, this is simply a new selection of maps from our library, not a new map pack.
I've selected a ton of maps that I consider some of our best. Especially ones we haven't played in a while. I've mixed in most of the standard maps as well -- in order to draw new players in.
If you are missing any of the maps, you can find them listed alphabetically in our DoD Map Library. If you are missing most of them, you can also download all 150+ of our maps from our DoD Map Packs page. All maps and map packs are in self-installing files.
Here's the list:

SunLit HL2DM Map Pack #2 now available for download.
The maps for Half-Life 2 DeathMatch continue to come out at a rapid clip. It's very encouraging to see so many mappers working to make custom maps for a new game so quickly.
Many of these first new maps have been fatally flawed in some fundamental way. Some were beautiful, but unplayable. Some were poorly textured, but fun to play.
The reason we've come out with this new map pack so quickly after the first is that there are finally a few maps out there that both look good and play well. The ones I'm most interested in are dm_bounce_b2 (a completely re-textured version of the classic HLDM map), dm_rebar_b5 and dod_substorage. Pictures of these three maps are below.
There are a few other maps in there as well. You can see a complete list, along with thumbnails and expanded pics of each map on our HL2DM Map Pack #2 page. A new mapcycle will be posted on the HL2DM servers shortly.

We now have an Half-Life 2 Team Death Match server.
SunLit Source of Madness
Team DeathMatch
67.18.13.94:27125
It is running the same maps as our regular HL2DM server.
Also, I've killed off the Natural Selection server, as no one was playing it, and we need to make sure we have plenty of capacity to run new mods for HL2.

I know most ordinary players are quite happy to play the same two maps over and over again, but all of us who play at SunLit are used to a little more choice and variety. I don't know about you, but I'm completely sick of playing dm_overwatch and dm_lockdown ad nauseum on our HL2DM server (SunLit Source of Horrors).
No more! Half-Life 2 Death Match Map Pack #1 is now ready for download. Click on the link above to download the whole pack or individual maps. You can also see some nice screenshots of all the maps on that page.
Please note that all SunLit HL2DM maps and map packs should be installed to the following folder:
C:>Program Files>Steam>SteamApps>{your e-mail}>half-life 2 deathmatch>hl2mp
After you have installed any SunLit HL2DM map or map pack to this folder once, it will remember the folder location for all subsequent HL2DM installs.
AintSkerd did most of the hard work of scrounging around various servers and websites finding some playable maps. There are not that many out there yet, but he's found a few gems. I'm particularly looking forward to barney_gulch and ofc_thebeach. There's also a new version of crossfire for HL2DM, called dm_crossfire2_b2 -- and with this one, the airstrike works.
You can see the new mapcycle here.
You can see screenshots and download maps or the map pack here.

The cold winds are blowing, the snow has begun to fall for many of you, and the holiday season is upon us. We wanted to do something to mark the occaision, so SunLit is having a virtual Winter Festival of sorts on one of our Day of Defeat servers.
It's the very best kind of winter festival, of course. You can stay inside and huddled over your warm monitor, there are no annoying relatives, and, of course, you get to shoot guns and blow stuff up.
The server normally known as the SunLit Annex, has been renamed SunLit Winter Warfare and is running a mapcycle of winter and wintery maps exclusively. If you are up-to-date with our custom maps (i.e., you have all our map packs installed), you do not need to download any thing. All the maps are simply winter maps already in our vast custom DoD map library.
You can see a list of all the winter maps, see pictures of all of them, and download any you might be missing on our Winter Warfare maps page. If you are missing most of the maps, you can also download a special map pack on the same page.
Happy Festivus, and Enjoy!

14 teams and 15 custom maps later, [GsS] and [HoD] again had the opportunity to test eachother's mettle.
Both teams had the skills, the strats and a 3 year familiarity with their opponent's styles and capabilities.
[GsS] came up with a decisive win over [HoD] with a final score of:
[GsS] 801 - [HoD] 358
Congratulations to both teams on an excellent season.
SLDL 5 is in the planning stages for a start in early January.
If your team is interested, please confirm with Pvt.John or Rosie or post in the SLDL forums
Happy Holidays

Hard to believe it, but we're already up to Map Pack
#15 for DoD 1.x.
You can download the map pack from the link above (you must be registered and logged in).
It's a big download -- 167 MB -- thought we'd push our server to the wall on this and see what
happens :) As always, install to the following folder:
C:>Program Files>Steam>SteamApps>{your e-mail}>day of defeat>dod
There are some updates of maps we've played before, including a fixed version of
dod_trenchfield2, which is one of my favorites. It had some missing textures before, but looks
great now. The final versions of dod_fury and dod_saisie are in there, too, along with a new
version of dod_cr44 called dod_cr44v2. Please note that dod_cr44night is included with the
download for dod_cr44v2.
Also, dod_normandy is back for the first time since the good old days of DoD Beta 3.1. It's
flag-based this time, instead of objective-based. Col. Krust mentioned a while ago that he
wanted to see dod_festung_v4 again, so this map has been added, too.
Those of you who have played Call of Duty will find dod_harbor_b3 to be very familiar. It is
essentially a remake of the standard CoD map Harbor, but in the DoD engine. It is very nice and
polished looking.
There are also a few "just for fun" types of maps included. Some crazy person converted some
custom HLDM maps to work with DoD in a Team Deathmatch sort of thing. I've included a few of
the better ones here -- scorched, plateau, and chaocity1. And of course, by popular demand, we
now have dod_walmart.
The new maps are running in a new mapcycle for Futurama.
Some pictures of the maps are below. You can also see all the pictures, with their map names,
and download individual maps or the map pack itself on the DoD Map Pack #15 page. Enjoy!
