Hacked Again Posted By RosietheRiveter -
When it rains it pours :(
Someone is hacking the web server. Our provider is wanting to shut the whole thing down.
John and Laz are working on it. However, the provider may shut us down with no notice.
This doesn't mean that SunLits is defunct. The entire web site has been backed up and ALL the game servers will remain on line as usual.
We can all keep in communication through the game itself, mirc at #I&S and #SLDL and vent.
ALL email lists are again disabled.
If you need to get in touch with Rosie, please use this link or the irc channels. All the SLDL team leaders have a master list of contact information.

Diversion Reschedule Posted By RosietheRiveter -
Well last night was sure interesting. Bless Steam.
Only 4/8 matches last night were able to be played.
I know rescheduling is a bear because of other league and family committments.
The teams that were unable to play this week on Diversion,
will play Diversion next Thursday Sept 22 at 9pm est.
Those teams that were able to complete the Diversion match will have a BYE week.

Then all teams will play Week 8, tact_v5, Thursday Sept 29, 9pm est.

!@#$% Steam Updates Posted By RosietheRiveter -
Steam has just updated .
Players may even reach precache resources and be seen as in Spectator but then are kicked to desktop with no error message.
If Steam doesnt have this fixed by 8:00pm est, this week's SLDL match on Diversion will be postponed as per the rules. No forfeits will be awarded

Rules 4. Schedules If a buggy/recall version of Steam is released during the tournament, the following will be observed:
If released Friday - Tuesday: No change in weekly schedule. If released Wednesday - Thursday: The matches following the update will be rescheduled.

SunLit Games Status Posted By RosietheRiveter -
Thought I'd summarize the answers to recent questions and let you know the priorities over the next couple of months.
We will see how it goes.

SLDL: The season will definitely continue and finish as planned.

DOD:Source: SunLits will be hosting both Futurama DOD:Source and the Annex DOD 1.3 Gold.
The Annex will at that point move from a motw to custom map venue.

Custom Maps: SunLits will continue to have custom maps in rotation and new maps will be available through in game downloads. New map pack availability is on hold for awhile.

Mailing Lists: The SLDL, SLDL Admin and SLDL AC| mailing lists are "broken". No estimated date for repairs.
I have sent out all relevant email addresses to the team leaders and admins. You can still reach me by pm, mirc #I&S or #sldl and email .
**Update** Sept 11: email lists working

ChatBox: Chat box was broken while removing abusive player and comments last week. No estimated date for repairs.
However, the public vent channel is working with no problems.

Forums: Any posts that degenerate into or look like they are headed into a flame war will be locked.
Any posts that are outright obscene or abusive will be deleted. I wont have time to be moderating forum content.
Priorities are to maintain the infrastructure of the web site and game servers.

Thanks for your patience
Rosie

DOD:Source Release in September Posted By RosietheRiveter -
Day of Defeat: Source will be released this month. While we're not quite ready to pin down the exact date of when it will be available to play, we are confident that it will happen in September. Once we do have an exact date and time for when the game will be activated, we'll let everyone know.

There will be a period of one week at minimum during which people will be able to pre-order and preload the game via Steam, giving them the ability to unlock and play at the moment it is activated.

Gabe Newell Interview - DOD:S Posted By RosietheRiveter -
Gabe Newell gives an interesting interview on Steam, Source, Valve and the new gaming platforms. He talks about the simultaneous running of Steam2 and 3, a stable Friends network and mentions DOD:S. There is a very brief film clip of DOD:S at 07:13 minutes.

You can download a 1.6MB avi of just the DOD:S segment here . New HUD, Sniper scope appears to have larger black border. Inclusion of a grenade launcher on garand is intriguing. I often wondered about how it would impact in DOD having seen this pic.

So what do you think?

  Dod_Thaw_b4 Posted By RosietheRiveter -
Propaganda has released his interpretation of Kalt, dod_thaw_b4.
Instantly recognizable as a Kalt remake but with some minor changes that will surprisingly impact on any knee-jerk strats.
dod_thaw_b4 has been added to the Futurama map cycle and can be voted in on both dod servers.

  Dod_Arch and Dod_Falaise-Gap Posted By RosietheRiveter -
"Izuno and I updated our dod 1.3 versions of dod_switch and dod_falaise as dod_arch and dod_falaise-gap and are releasing them. We've both had them stashed away for months. There's no sense in us keeping them under wraps. Although I'm not positive, I doubt Valve will execute any further gold src map updates over Steam due to the impending release of dod:source so it's our wish to throw these out as customs. Both maps changes were made to fix errors and try and speed up gameplay."
- Source

Maps are loaded onto Futurama and Annex and will autodownload. They can be voted up.

New Feature - Technology Review Links Posted By Pvt_John -
I know that I am a technology junkie, and that many of you are, too. I spent (wasted?) most of yesterday morning reading through two of my favorite technology review sites (AnandTech.com and Tom's Hardware Guide) reading about the new 7800GTX KO video card from eVGA, that nifty Lian-Li desk I linked in the forums, and lots of other cool stuff.

It then occurred to me that quite a few of us are interested in such things, and are often discussing hardware deals, new technology, etc. in the forums. So, I've added a couple RSS feeds to the SunLit website so you can see what's new on the two technology review sites mentioned above. Look in the lower right of the home page, below the poll.

Steam Updates Posted By RosietheRiveter -
Steam has updated itself several times in the last couple of weeks.
Yesterdays updates were very lengthy, with many people stalling out at 30% or loading very slowly.
Not a big update just buggy install. The Steam Forums are full of reported errors.

It would be prudent for the SLDL teams to make sure that their players have updated Steam well before the matches and confirm that tonight's rosters can all connect.

***UPDATE*** 5:30pm est
STEAM has released another update fixing the disconnect problems of last night.

VAC2 Enabled on DOD, HLDM and HLRally Posted By RosietheRiveter -
"We have released an update to Counter-Strike and the Half-Life 1: Engine. Run the hldsupdatetool to get this update. If you run ANY server that uses the Half-Life 1: Engine (i.e TFC, DMC, NS, DoD, etc) then you should get this update.

This update enables VAC2 by default for all Half-Life 1: Engine dedicated servers and fixes a couple potential exploits.....

The update also disables old style queries by default. To enable old queries set "sv_enableoldqueries" to "1" (this is NOT recommended, if you set this you will expose your server to a potential DDoS attack).
- Alfred"

The full update logs can be read here

All SunLit's HL engine based games have been updated as of this morning.

Blocked IP Addresses on the Webserver Posted By Pvt_John -
Quite a few of you have written to me about suddenly being blocked from the web server (including the website, SunVent, and in-game downloads).

With the help of the evil code monger (a.k.a., Laz, Kernel Compile), we have the problem figured out and fixed.

A program called PortSentry, which blocks any users attempting to access any non-standard ports from accessing the webserver, was installed on the new webserver after the old one was hacked severely. It has worked well, along with other measures we've taken, and blocked several hacking/scanning attempts.

However, we did not realize that the in-game auto download used a non-standard port to pull files off the webserver and therefore had not added it to the "allow" list in PortSentry. Therefore, anyone using in-game downloading risked being seen as a hacker by PortSentry and denied all access to the server!

Anyway, it's fixed now. Thanks Laz :)

Dm_Snowblind by DocRock Posted By RosietheRiveter -
Had to add this beauty. DocRock has created another solid map, with multiple tiers and rpgs, reminiscent of his previous work "termination".
dm_snowblind has been added to both HL2DM servers and the votemaplist. Give it a whirl.

"While we know we're starting to sound a little like a broken record, Lost Coast, Day of Defeat, and Aftermath are in the final phases of development and being polished for release. While the latter two aren't quite at the point where we can nail down an exact release date, we're expecting to have Lost Coast ready in a couple of weeks."

New mapcycle for Futurama Posted By Pvt_John -
There is a new mapcycle on Futurama. I've included all the maps in the remainder of SLDL, alternated with some of the standard DoD maps.

You can see a complete list here:
Futurama Map Cycle

I'm waiting on a couple new DoD maps to be released, then I will be doing up another DoD map pack. Stay tuned!

  Dm_Castle_Sanctuary and Dm_Intel_Final Posted By RosietheRiveter -
Its been awhile since the last hl2dm map offering. The number of new maps with reasonable fps have dropped dramatically.

dm_castle_sanctuary is a totally remade version of the hldm classic 5_5castlev3 and an early port to the source engine, dm_castle_overload. Not satisfied with the early port, [S-UK] Electric Warrior & [S-UK] Captain Hornet started over and produced a map with a totally new look, higher and consistent fps and with their trademark secret passages.

dm_intel_final is a rat style map by Frederik Ehlers, that goes beyond the familiar bed and bathrooms scenarios. Beautiful looking, interesting physics objects, mouse buggies and solid fps make it a map to investigate. I'd like to hear your take on the weapon placements and how they "work" in a full server.

  SLDL - Preason2 - Sherman 2 Posted By RosietheRiveter -
SLDL Preseason 2 week is completed.
Teams should have had an opportunity to tweak their servers, familiarize themselves with the configs and match protocol. Teams have had a chance to reacquaint themselves with old rivals and the new participants test their mettle against the "old timers". [SS] and the =10th= hung in there against eVo|, the team to beat this season. They can kick back and watch the rest of us do the same.

There were some very close scores and all matches were hard fought.
Scores and standings are posted and standings will be reset for next week for the regular season.

New Mapcycle for Futurama Posted By Pvt_John -
We have a new mapycle on Futurama. It's a huge list, including a whole bunch of maps we haven't played in a long time, as well as a few of the better ones from the most recent couple map packs.

You can see the whole list on the Futurama Mapcycle page.

Have fun!
