If anyone is curious, the reason the website was either down or partially functional this morning was that it was undergoing a couple of upgrades.
The forum system has now been upgraded from PNphpBB2 ver. 1.2g to ver 1.2i (patch 3). Which is, of course, the latest version with all the security fixes.
The main website software that is the backbone for the whole site is called PostNuke. We have upgraded from PostNuke ver. 7.6.1 to ver. 7.6.4. It doesn't sound like a big upgrade, but this represents about two years of fixes and improvements to PostNuke.
The feature I am looking forward to the most in PN 7.6.4 is a revision to the new user registration process that asks the user a very simple question and has them type the answer. A person could answer it easily, but a spammer bot could not. That's the point. Hopefully, this will cut down on the 5 to 10 spammer bots we get registering everyday. Keeping up with them has been a pain.
Everything seems to be working fine. Let me know if you notice anything not functioning properly.

A lot of work and resources are necessary to keep SunLit's running. Rosie does tons and tons of work on a day to day basis updating maps, running SLDL, etc. But most of you are aware of that already.
There are some other people we don't even see in game hardly ever (if at all) any more that nevertheless continue to help keep SunLit going. It really tells you a lot about these people that they want to help out even though they can't really enjoy the fruits of that help themselves.
Lazarus Long, our founding admin, still helps out with keeping our webserver running. We've had numerous hackers and spammers attack our dedicated webserver machine, and without Laz's help, we wouldn't be able to keep the server secure and functioning.
Wicked Girl hasn't had time to play in a long time, real life has kept her real busy. However, she kept sending money every month for about a year after she stopped playing.
Finally, tonight I just finished a long session working with Hurricane to get the MySQL software on our server updated. Updating the MySQL stuff is necessary to allow us to update PostNuke (which is the software that runs this site). We need the new PostNuke for several essential security fixes. Updating MySQL was completely beyond my ability (I really have no business running a Linux server, I'm the digital equivalent of a sixteen year old male with a drinking problem who just got his drivers license and a new Mustang GT). Hurricane spent hours of his time this afternoon and evening helping me get it done.
Anway, I just thought I'd say thank you to everyone who's helped keep SunLit going in one way or another -- thank you to all of you. Others have helped besides the three above, but I wanted to thank these three in particular.

Nubbits has released a capture the flag version of fuel, dod_fuel_CtF_b1. There are 6 flags including 2 - 2man caps. As much as I love the timed det version, the flags may give it a wider acceptance for competition.
*Update** Nubbits is a machine and has already released dod_fuel_CtF_b2

The two teams in each of the conferences' finals not only had the skills but the dedication to finish out the season regardless of roster and real life obstacles.
Its Rage Infected, SLDL veterans of 8 seasons versus the powerhouse Pub Starz and The LeatherNecks facing off with Just A Game on epicentre_b2d.
Final Scores:
Upper Conference pub* 505 - +RAGE+ 244
Lower Conference |>LN>| 491 - =JAG= 400
Congratulations to the winners.
It was a pleasure hosting the SLDL and we hope to see everyone back again next season.

Three new maps for the weekend
Albatross has released another map in his signature sepia style, dod_edelweiss_b3
Its big with lots of vertical play. The cable cars can be operated from a switch at the 1 flags. There are 6 flags with 2 - 2man caps.

Fishy has released his 5th in the mortimer series.
The frame rates are very much improved and game flow has been tweaked.

Dean has returned with his promised update to railroad3b3, renamed dod_eisenbahn_b2. The map has been "sourcified" in appearance while maintaining good fps. He has fixed the hole in the apartment wall for the allies and added a surprise.

The proliferation of orange and arena style maps may offer variety from the 8 stock maps but fall short of utilizing the Source engine or incorporating Day of Defeat's tactical style. Game play plugins are subdividing the DODS player base further. The player base needs to be brought together with some consistency in the standard game Valve side.
There are two threads stickied for discussion of 5 game tweaks and 5 custom maps that you feel would be worthwhile to enhance the game. Please think it over and share your thoughts

The Cyberathletic Amateur League (CAL) has issued a major change in its plans for supporting Day of Defeat Source.
Season 5 Plugin Release"
Season 5 is just around the corner and with it comes the release of the brand new plugin package for Day of Defeat: Source.
CALibrate has been retired, the clientside TIWAZ and the new serverside plugins Sentinel and rFIRE. Sentinel handles materials blocking and CVAR management, as well as adding pistols to the game. The rFire plugin controls the Cone of Fire and brings a new level accuracy to the game. " - Bennet Feb 15 2007
These plugins have been added to the SunLit Annex MOTW server with appropriate modifications for public play.
Cone of Fire on
Pistols for rifles and support classes
Cvar, rate and file consistency on
The server will NOT kick players for having the default cl_restrict_server_commands 1
The server will NOT kick payers with cvars that don't match the required settings
SunLit Futurama will run the standard DOD Source
Please discuss this format in the forums

Nubbits has released the long and much anticipated brighter version of dod_fuel_b3.
Nubbits kicked it up a notch. Instead of working on the lighting in the tunnel and cafe, he transformed the map into a daylight setting.
Now playing on Futurama.

Furyo has released his newest version of the rive maps, dod_rive_rc2
Fixed water to allow real time refraction. This isn't proper water, but a refract shader. Closest solution to replace water without its expensive physics.

G33ber has tweaked his flak series further with dod_flak_b7
There is now an overview.

The Rivals Online DOD:E competitive league has been involved with reworking some standard match maps.
dod_thunder_b1 is a donner remake. Its grittier in mood and has routes and buildings changed similar to its 1.3 predecessor . All it needs are the trenches.
solitude_match is very similar to solitude_comp but without the doors from both sides to the middle and 4 flags. This should decrease potential camping and speed up already intense gameplay.
anzio+_b1 has been stripped to the bare minimum. It has reverted to the 1.3 layout, removing the cemetary and adding back the ladder at the front of the church and the tunnel to the 3 flag.
All 3 are on Futurama today and will download in game.

LionelQueripel has released his first mapping effort dod_montecassino
"Map based upon Italian monastery at Montecassino, before it was completely flattened. Mixture of internal and external gameplay with five flags to capture on multi-levels. Allies spawn outside the monastery, axis spawn from three areas inside the building."
Its a very small map and the multiple spawn points for the axis in such a small area is going to promote spawn killing. However, the "look" is interesting. The map is on Futurama for playtesting and can be voted in or accessed by an admin. Have a look and give some feedback to the author.

Link was in Most Things Considered and the Day of Defeat Forums to a map dod_nightforest[1].exe
Report: These threads show a map called dod_nightforest but you can't save the map as a download. Once I hit run and it loaded the file on my computer, that's when I got the infected file. It isn't a map it's a trojan virus. "
If you downloaded this file , please run a virus scan.
This file was not submitted to or tested by SunLits.

JakeParlay has released 2 new versions of his tunisia map. The first is a much optimized version of the detonation map, dod_tunisia_rc1. He has repaired the ladders and reworked the spawn areas to reduce camping.
The second version is a capture the flag scenario, dod_tunisiaCTF_rc1. There are 5 flags to control. Frame rates are great. The map is much brighter but doesn't lose its ambience. Im looking forward to seeing how the ctf game style plays on full server.

Redo / ira_hayes recently asked Mig if he had really been "fragin for fun since 2001? Has it really been that long?"
Well, it has and Mig has the links to prove it.
The SunLit Half-Life of Horrors mod made it appearance late 2000 and the web site appeared soon after. For those of you who were there when it started, here is a brief history of the SunLit phenomenom.
Happy Sixth Anniversary!
