Rolk has released his new version of Arras, dod_arras_v2_b1.

It feels and plays like an entirely different map. Arras_v2 is loaded up on Futurama and Annex. It will autodownload in bzip2 format from the servers and can be voted up.
From the author of dod_arras_v2:

Dod_arras_v2_b1 has been released. I call it V2 because depending on the opinions of this release, I might go back to the original and just fix that one up. List of changes include:

-Axis 2 story house has been rotated

-Axis small house has been changed, only one floor now

-Allies 2 story house has been rotated to cover both fields (same as axis)

-Middle Flags now enclosed

-Moved Tiger Tank shed

-Both middle fields have been shortened (40%)

-You can now throw grenades over all fences within the map

-HDR Lighting now enabled

-Tweaked with fog settings

-Re-designs house insides, more realistic house designs

-Fixed cubemap problem where they weren't reflecting properly (Indoors look better)

-Added ambient sounds to flags, trees and a few other things

-Added smoke from craters

Re: Arras_v2_b1
My first question on this map is:

How are the framerates now?
The framerates do seem improved.

I like this version better. Very nice work. It is turning into one of the better maps for dods.

I have three suggestions:
1) remove the smoke over the craters. It looks kinda funky. There's nothing in there to produce the smoke, so it also looks unrealistic. I suspect it also has an effect on the framrates. IMHO, the map is better with out the this feature.

2) I'm trying to figure out how to say this diplomatically.... but I can't :) The skybox looks hideous! Eek! Make it go away!

3) Consider putting some of the length back in those fields. Those long fields were one of the neat, and unique, features of this map. So many maps are small and focus on close-in fighting, it was nice to have something different. Perhaps 40% was too much, maybe try it with only a 20% or 30% reduction? One caveat here, though, and it's important: If doing so ruins the framerates, then keep it the way it is. In fact, if you find any way to optimize framerates even further, that would also be a good thing.

So there's my input. I love the map. You've done a great job.

Thank you for working hard to provide all of us dods junkies some variety in our gameplay. We appreciate it :)
