From the author"
"Forza could take place during the big Siege of Bologna.
The Allies are advancing towards Forza which has been hit by several bombing raids directed at the bridges in its vicinity. To not be obliged to leave a blank mission report, the gunner( of the bomber, bombenrichtschütze ) decided to drop his (massive) load on a train station that just looked like a good chatter in the officers club.
The Duce Mussolini wanted to have said train station built for it would make such a pittoresque addition to the scenery. His archeologists and structural engineers were not pleased with the chosen location because of the cobwebinfested AND historical catacombs underneath it.
Especially the archeologist would have been fond of settling down for a while in that hotel near the statue to do sophisticated potholing with state funding. While he was at it, he sure could get to know that Barmaid down at Pepino´s. But he digressed.
After informal talks with the secret service the structural engineers and the Archeologist happily agreed to build the Stazione Grande Mussolini.
It stood for a lousy five years not-openly-despised by the populace to be hit by a bomb in 1944. The platforms collapsed and took one train carriage with it into the crater, an uncertain ammount of Mussolini busts were harmed.
There are two ways to reach the middle, follow the roads and enter Stazione Grande on surface level or jump down into the canals and run to the crater through the not yet cobwebinfested catacombs."
