Beautiful Looking Prison Camp |
Review: |
Dod_stalag13b2 is a very nice map, based on pictures and diagrams of a real P.O.W. camp from WWII. The allies spawn outside the main gate of a prison camp, and the axis spawn in the barracks inside the camp, on the opposite side. There are cool guard towers you can climb up and snipe from, and sneaky side routes you can use to flank your opponents.
The map is just a little foggy, and the sun is going down. The lighting is really beautiful and shows off the map well. The textures and models used all lend an air of authenticity. The map is very realistic, and is worth seeing just because it is so well-crafted.
Unfortunately, it suffers from a couple of faults when it comes to actual gameplay. First, the map is very two-dimensional. One could argue this is an inherent feature when making a somewhat historically accurate model of a prison camp, but the gameplay suffers for it nonetheless. There are rumors the map author may come out with a new version which would include tunnels, and this would go a long way to alleviating this problem.
Second, the framerates suffer fairly badly when there are more than about 12 players on the map. Up until that point, the frames are acceptable.
The map may be suitable for match play. |
