SunLit TF2 redux
69.28.221.231:27016
The game is only available to those who pre-purchase the Orangebox.
Have to admire their marketing team *LOL*
I'll be fiddling with admin stuff during the day.
In the meantime, Enforcers can use rcon for the usual.
Have fun

The Orange Box -- the collection of new stuff from Valve that includes Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 -- is available for pre-order through Steam. Steamer (no relation) had posted this link in the forum earlier, but I thought a few of you might have missed it.
If you pre-order, you will be able to play TF2 beta starting Monday, Sept. 17th. The Orange Box is about US $50, but includes all the games above.
There is another bit of news that may be of interest. The "Orange Box games" will all use an updated Source engine. This is no minor update. The new "Orange Box" source engine includes multi-core processor support. There are also indications that DODS will be converted to the new engine, although the information about that seems somewhat mixed.
SunLit will, of course, have a TF2 server up and running on day one. Rosie has been working on getting it ready for a few days.

LionelQueripel has released his map colditz_b1. The map is a combined detonation/flag capture map. There is a time limit of six minutes in which the Allies must escape the castle. However, before they can escape, they have to break out of their cells/living quarters. To do this, they have to locate the TNT store (or one of their hidden demolition hordes) and use the charges to break out. A novel concept but the map needs to be given a "live" test. That 6 minutes runs out fast while allies are still looking for the tnt. There is a minimap with the tnt marked.
Fishy has released a small outdoor map, jabi_b1. Its standard ctf , bridge-over-a-river map but might offer some frenetic game play. Both are on Futurama.
[PLAYTEST] colditz, jabi and schwetizngen.

Rolk has released his interpretation of dod_switch from 1.3, calling it dod_kallan_b1. Its an early beta and visually sparse but the layout and choke points are there.
Punish has released his version of 1.3 isernia , dod_source_isernia_v2. As a bonus, he has included a snow and snow at night versions.
Ultranewb has released dod_copse_b1, a small forest map derived from V2_b3. Fast and furious with good fps.

StreamlineData has released his interpretation of the 1.3 classic adrenalin4 and has called it dod_fireshorts_b1.
We had a brief run through last night. You'll remember the layout immediately and some feedback on the gameplay and reports of any glitches would be very welcome.

Bauer is a machine! He has released another 1.3 port, dod_santos_b1.
Its gritty, gloomy and puts you right back in time to dod_saints.
He has also updated dod_diversion with a new twist at the middle fountain.
His updated versions of bayeux and and strasbourg have also loaded on the servers. The Surgeon has released the final version of cherbourg. All 5 maps will download in game.

Someone mentioned the rapid changes in the rankings within the stats system due to the hourly updates. It got me to thinking about something.
The hourly updates really reflect accurately the current ranking within the stats. If we change things to daily updates, a given person might be listed as #1 for 24 hours, but that's only because the new data hasn't been accounted for yet. Their position would still change drastically from one update to the next.
If the main concern out there is that it is too easy to move up (or move down, for that matter), then the culprit is that the stats system is currently set to look at such a small time frame of data. Currently, the stats are compiled using the last 14 days worth of server log data. With every new hour added, the oldest hour (14 days + 1 hour) is dropped. This is a relatively narrow window of time, and large swings in the stats will be seen from one day to the next.
If we lengthened the time frame out to 30 or 60 days, it would be much more difficult to move up or down quickly. This would make sense for our regulars, but make it more difficult for new players to see results in the stats. On the other hand, since it would reward hanging around here a lot over time, perhaps it would encourage people to play at SunLit more often.
What do you all think? There is a poll down the right hand side of the page. Vote your choice now.
UPDATE 8/2/07:
The stats have now been reset to include data from 60 days. This is about the mid-point of the desires of those who voted in the poll.

The game server stats for Day of Defeat, Day of Defeat Source, and Half-Life 2 DeathMatch are all now online.
Our stats are run on the excellent Psychostats 3.0 system. The stats are updated hourly for each server (on the hour for DODS, ten minutes past the hour for DOD, and twenty minutes past the hour for HL2DM). Currently, only the stats for the last fourteen days are included. Any data over fourteen days old is dropped as the new data is added from the logs.
The data for the weapons and hitboxes is now working, but this will not show any of this particular data from before today's date. In fourteen days, of course, all profiles should include full weapons/hitbox data.
There is an amazing level of information in the stats system. The initial page shows the ranking of all players on the server. Click on a name on the main page, you can then see all sorts of information about that player, including when he or she last played, their favorite weapons and maps, and even the other players they kill the most often.
Click on a weapon name, and you can see who are the best players using that weapon. There are monthly awards for most skillful player, most bonus points (flag caps), and more.
Go check it out now on the SunLit Game Stats page.
If you have any questions or comments about the new stats system, please post in the Stats Questions and Comments forum thread.

SunLit Games is proud to assist in the launch of the Community Assembled Map Pack, CAMP 2. You can download this pack now from our CAMP2 Download page.
Valve will be advertising the map pack to the entire DOD Source community come Friday, and SunLit Games will be one of the mirrors for the download. The servers will be playing the new Aura, Crash, Churchyard, Stug and Tunisia 24/7 for the next few days. Its a great opportunity to attract new players to our community.
You might see the web site slow to a crawl for a couple of days but no worries, the game servers are on a different box and will not be affected. I'd like to thank those SunLit players who participated in this effort for both their time spent playtesting and their discretion. The CAMP2 download is available to the SunLit community ahead of the official release tomorrow and the servers will be running the new mapcycle starting today.
Cheers

Bauer has released an optimized version of bayeux , dod_bayeux_b3
Its playing on Futurama and the Annex. Frames between the ally 1 flag and mountain house are much improved.
Id like to see this version run for the SLDL tomorrow.
Lets take advantage of smoother gameplay.

SunLitGames has just completed a major dedicated gaming server upgrade. We have moved from a dual-processor (single-core) system to a dual-processor (dual-core) system. We now have four processor cores to run our game server instances. Our new dedicated server machine also has more RAM and more hard drive storage space.
What this means for us is the ability to run more games with more people on them without the server lagging out. Whereas before, we could have about two twenty-man servers at capacity without lag, now we can have about four twenty-man servers. We can therefore experiment with our game server mix, add new games like TF2, try out some new mods, etc. And we can do all that while continuing to support the DOD servers the majority of our community still enjoys.
The new server is in the same rack in the same data center in Chicago, so no one needs to worry about their pings getting worse. Your pings on the new machine should be nearly identical to whatever you got on the old machine. Our server provider is also transferring all our IP addresses, so they will remain the same as well (we're getting a few new IP addresses to use, as well).
All together, it's a good day at SunLit :)
Happy fragging.

DVD has released his first source map, dod_frostvale_b1. It is a small winter urban map, reminiscent of Kalt. Its an early beta and has good fps but no minimap.
Happyernst has released a new version of panic.
Albatross has released a beta of nightingale.
Rolk has added the latest in his arras seires.
Thats 8 new maps added in the past couple of days.
Futurama 69.28.221.145:27015 will be running a temporary mapcycle this morning, with 15 min map duration of these new maps for you to get a glimpse.

A first map release for Huri. Adeanau is a 5 flag ctf style map. It is set in a large village with very linear gameplay. The graphics are definitely beta and the fps are average. Minimap and spawn protection included.
Grippy has created a large outdoor, nighttime, winter map, dod_snowblind_b1. It is detonation style with 4 targets and ally defending. FPs are good , minimap included

Ultranewb continues with his unique style introducing an escort map. Allies escort a convoy up the road to destroy a V2 base. 3 obstacles need to be destroyed in order to achieve the ally objective. The map succeeds in showcasing a dense forest. FPS are good . Minimap included

Dijon has been a staple on the pub server and the SLDL
Mapper Furyo posted this request and it would be great of the Sunlit community would get behind him in thanks for the hours we've enjoyed on Dijon.
"dod_dijon was selected in a 25K USD contest
If you're willing to help Furyo get a share of this prize, please follow this post
First go to and register on their site. It's fast and free. There is no wait for account activation.
Then click on this link: link and click on the button "vote" to add your vote to the rest.
The current top pick has 70 votes, and I only just started on dijon. With that said, TopGunMav's dod_tiger has been voted 68 times now, and is 3rd pick. He's plastered that everywhere, so now it's my turn to get back in the race :) - Furyo"

Insurgency (INS) is a total conversion mod for Valve Software's Half-Life 2, powered by the Source Engine. INS immerses the player in an intense online combat experience. Set on the modern battlefields, Insurgency simulates infantry combat that encourages the use of teamwork and tactics to close with and destroy the enemy.
SunLit has added a passworded, 16 slot server for you to check out this mod.
