The map author quite obviously put a lot of work into dod_elden. It looks beautiful, but has some issues for gameplay.
There are five flags, three two-man flags and two one-man flags.
The map layout is reminescent of dod_harrington or dod_diversion for DOD classic. There's a courtyard in the middle of an urban setting, with a two-man cap.
My problem with the map is two-fold. First, the layout just doesn't seem to work very well. It is disorienting and hard to get used to where you're at and where the objectives are.
There is junk just everywhere, in the streets, in the rooms, on the balconies. So many objects to trip over and get stuck on when trying to move quickly through an area. Combine this with many narrow streets outside, and small rooms inside, and I often get a claustrophobic feeling while playing.
The framerates are not good.
If the map could somehow be cleaned up, streamline the layout, and optimize the framerates, it might be good. As it is now, I'm not a big fan.
It does look good, however.
It may be suitable for match play. |
